The MLP (Mobile Launch Platform) - including a space vehicle - is carried to a launch pad by a Crawler Transporter. Once at the launch pad, the MLP (Mobile Launch Platform) is placed on a supportive structure of six steel pedestals that are 22 ft (6.7 m) tall, and four extensible columns. Space Shuttle MLPs  weighed 8,230,000 lbs (3,730,000 kg) unloaded and about 11,000,000 lbs (5,000,000 kg) with an un-fueled Space Shuttle on it.
