Just before dawn in the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building), workers slowly file in. The large high bay doors are mostly closed and just a hint of a damp breeze flutters through the main transfer aisle now and then. Standing on the ground floor at the elevator door mosquitoes float about in the dim light searching for exposed skin. The work of exploring the cosmos is the work of human ingenuity and will - gritty, earthy and anything but sterile.
